Overview

Job title PSI Zimbabwe IPC Consultant

Department South Africa International

Based in Harare, Zimbabwe

Reports to the Deputy Regional Director, South Africa

We’re Population Services International (PSI), the world’s leading non-profit social marketing organization. We work to make it easier for people in the developing world to be healthy by providing access to products and services that range from mosquito nets to HIV testing.

There are over 9,000 “PSI’ers” around the world. It’s a diverse group of entrepreneurs and professionals with an unusually wide range of backgrounds – from the medical industry to the music business – all with unique skills we bring to the job.

PSI/Zimbabwe is searching for short term technical and operation assistance to the Interpersonal Communication (IPC) program for a 4-month period. This position will be based in Harare, Zimbabwe and reports to the Deputy Regional Director, South Africa.

PSI/Z is implementing a three-year project meant to translate market research findings and insights into actionable activities to improve Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) program uptake by men. The project is focused on two pillars of VMMC demand creation: Mass Media and Inter Personal Communication (IPC). Human Centered design (HCD) concepts will be considered during the entire duration of the project. Several changes have been implemented under the VMMC IPC model. IPC model changes included the revision of the IPC tool kit, training manual, review of IPC processes, IPC structure, IPC remuneration and IPC support and supervision, that were piloted for 8 months.

Currently, IPC agents contribute an average of 72%, yet this contribution could be higher and yield more outputs. The project was reviewed in June 2017, and noted to have several processes that PSI Zimbabwe will require longer term assistance to implement. Key gaps noted in the review process included, but not limited to: Inadequate number of IPC Agents; Limited mentoring and supervision of IPC Agents; Inadequate planning to link VMMC demand and supply; Frustrated field personnel due to lack of IPC skill; limited linkages between IPC and Mass Media implementation and; non-implementation of VMMC Champions for demand creation. Further, the VMMC program is undergoing demand creation structural changes, with new personnel being added at district and regional levels.
