JOB DESCRIPTION

Nutrition Facilitator (Umzingwane District)

The purpose of this position is to support the Health and Nutrition Team in Umzingwane District in the timely and quality implementation of the health and nutrition activities within the UNICEF program in general and the Nutrition Surveillance activities in particular.

Job Description/ Responsibility:

The Nutrition Facilitator will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of health and nutrition activities, these include capacity building of and monitoring VHW, community sensitization and mobilization for the Surveillance activities and representing WVZ at District Health and Nutrition coordination fora as assigned.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Sensitise and mobilise the community including traditional leaders to participate in nutrition surveillance and active screening activities.
  • Provide support to the health and nutrition team in the training of Health Facility staff, VHW in nutrition surveillance and active case finding for acute malnutrition.
  • To provide supportive monitoring and mentoring to VHW to ensure quality screening and referral for children with acute malnutrition
  • Conduct follows up on referred children and defaulters to ensure that they get require management.
  • Ensure accurate anthropometric measurements are done during surveillance and active screening for reliable nutrition status data generation
  • Ensure accurate recording and reporting of nutrition surveillance and active screening data.
  • Participate in monthly Health Facility/VHW meetings in the District.
  • Compile monthly reports

Educational Requirements

  • A holder of a BS degree in Nutrition or an equivalent.

Experience Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to learn
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good team player and able to work under pressure
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft word and excel
  • Ability to work and stay in rural communities
