Retail store supervisors are responsible for the daily running of stores. The job description of a retail store supervisor usually entails activities to minimize costs while maximizing profits. Retail supervisors ensure promotions are accurate and in compliance with company standards. He/she makes sure all staff are fully informed on the target for the day, and ensure that customer care is top priority. Depending on the size of a store or company structure, supervisors’ role may also include dealing with logistics, marketing, human resource, customer service, information technology, and finance. Since retail stores sell goods and services to customers, supervisors in most stores include managers who oversee the work of other sales associates and managers. At the top, this may include the general manager of the store.
In this position, you will basically work store opening hours. This is usually within 35 to 40 hours per week, though in some instances, your work may include evenings and weekends. However, part-time work is now common and you may work a shift pattern if you like. Retail business is fast growing and it is being reflected through prevailing conditions in the economy faster than any other. Nationwide, if you visit towns and cities you’ll find shops and stores of different shapes and sizes, from small shops in a street corner to a big one in large malls. You can move from retail supervisor to manager or director. You should also be ready to move from one organization to the other. You should also be prepared to work for yourself and open your own store once you have acquired relevant experience.
