  • Location Harare, with occasional travel inside the country

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is a federal enterprise to support the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The GIZ Governance Project works with relevant stakeholders to build up dialogue between citizens, state actors and non-state actors e.g. civil society organisations (CSOs) both at national and at local level. By doing so, new spaces are created for developing trust and mutual understanding as well as for fostering transparency and cooperation.

Key tasks

The national advisor will support the following activities:

  • Advise project staff and partners on citizen participation and Human Rights;
  • Assess the organisational and technical capacity of partners, including an understanding of financial and administrative strength, and provide mentoring and technical assistance;
  • Oversee administration and continuous follow-up of activities, which include project appraisals, reviews, financial follow-up and evaluations;
  • Develop and carry out trainings and workshops for partners with regard to technical issues (citizen participation, Human Rights) as well as management issues (project management, M+E, knowledge management, organisational development);
  • Contribute to the integration of gender perspectives and specific women/girls’ rights issues in all activities, projects and strategies;
  • Prepare and deliver concise, targeted written reports and presentations for diverse groups;
  • Support networking and dialogue among CSOs and with other relevant actors; Support project management;
  • Develop and maintain communication with existing and potential partner organisations

Required qualifications, competences and experience

  • Degree in political or social sciences, law or similar fields;
  • At least 10 years of total professional experience in the field of CSOs, citizen participation and Human Rights;
  • Experience in working with donor/NGO projects in the mentioned sector;
  • Strong project management, planning and organisational skills; Brings along a wide network within the CSO sector;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and writing skills; Self-motivated personality with sound judgment;
  • Ability to work independently

 Other knowledge, additional competences

Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Ability to work as part of a culturally diverse team in a German organisation
