Evaluation of the Effectiveness of STI Syndromic Management Training

In Zimbabwe, the self-reported prevalence of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and STI symptoms is 10 percent among women and 7 percent among men (ZDHS 2010-11). The Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) has adopted the syndromic management approach to manage STIs. In 2012, MoHCC revised STI managementguidelines. STI training manuals were reviewed in line with syndromic management guidelines. Substantial support has been going towards capacity building of service providers to introduce management according to these revised guidelines: To date close to one thousand service providers from all levels of service delivery have received training. The majority of the service providers were from primary health care facilities. As part of monitoring and evaluation there is need to assess the impact of STI s management trainings and to determine whether STI management is appropriate and in line with management protocols.

Objectives of the Consultancy

The MoHCC, with support from UNFPA, would like to engage a consultant to develop and conduct and evaluation of the effectiveness of Syndromic Management Training which was conducted in 2013 and 2014, and determine whether major STls are properly diagnosed and the correct treatment is prescribed according to national guidelines.
