Introduction

The U.S. Embassy in Harare is seeking an individual for the position of Public Health Specialist (Care, Support and Treatment) at the Centers for Disease Control.

Minimum Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

• Doctoral level (DrPH, MD or PhD) degree or host country equivalent in medicine, nursing, public health, epidemiology, behavioral or social sciences is required.

• Five years of public health experience in developing, implementing and evaluating HIV/AIDS C&S/T programs or other relevant public health programs that involve coordination with an international agency or implementing partner is required.

• Level IV English is required (fluency in speaking, reading, writing)

• Comprehensive knowledge of current HIV/AIDS issues, including C&S/T, counseling and interventions, behavior change, testing, and treatment is required.

Job Specification

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The Public Health Specialist is a HIV/AIDS care & support and treatment (C&S/T) project/activity manager and key public health technical advisor to the official in charge of (C&S/T) activities. The Specialist’s responsibilities include day-to-day program and administrative management, and coordination and collaboration with other PEPFAR agencies to ensure project implementation addresses program strategic objectives and internationally recognized public health standards and best practices. This management role requires public health technical leadership, results-oriented analysis, advocacy, and constant and clear communication with implementing partners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and host country ministries (including the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare). The Specialist represents CDC/Zimbabwe on C&S/T issues at technical, policy and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with collaborators and donor agencies. This position is directly supervised by the Deputy Director for Science.
