Position Overview:
The Nutrition Coordinator will be based in Kigali, Rwanda and will coordinate the nutrition and health programs for The Women’s Bakery. The mission of The Women’s Bakery includes providing communities (both rural and urban) with access to highly nutritious breads. As the organization expands, The Women’s Bakery plans to maintain the nutritional components of our programming while creatively developing and expanding our work. The Nutrition Coordinator will be expected to take initiative and innovatively execute a core component of The Women’s Bakery mission by creating new health and nutrition programs, initiatives, curriculum, and impact measurement. The Nutrition Coordinator may also be involved in other exciting work such as program management, health promotion, and bakery operational systems.
Responsibilities:
Training and capacity building
- Develop and deliver continuing health education curriculum
- Develop training curriculum
- Enroll training participants in the national health insurance program (Mutuelles)
- Create and execute education campaigns on balanced diets
- Coordinate training groups and other programs
- Conduct home visits and cooking demonstrations for training participants
Nutrition research
- Create, test, and distribute additional nutritious recipes
- Summarize nutrition and other health related data
- Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator to track all relevant health data
- Work closely with TWB Dietetics Consultant to calculate nutritional content of our products
Communication
- Maintain marketing and communications highlighting our nutrition-based programming in Rwanda
- Assist in creating weekly reports for bakery performance
- Create and distribute best health practices guidelines for bakery employees
- Promote nutrition labels for our products
Additional projects
- Research and secure standing bread orders for schools and offices
- Participate in training (e.g. guest lessons)
- Work closely with identified bakery employee/s to train in the eventual management and leadership of their bakery
- Participate in other TWB Rwanda operations and programming as outlined by supervisor
Desired Skills and Experience:
Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or other relevant field*
- One to two years of relevant experience in or working on programs, preferably in East Africa*
- Proven administrative and organizational skills
- Experience creating and implementing health programs in low resource settings
- Knowledge of data collection processes
- Quantitative skills for developing, monitoring, and projecting program growth
- Experience teaching
- Strong interpersonal and marketing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of French preferred
- A team player who enjoys highly collaborative work environments
- A proven ability to take initiative and work independently
- Ability to communicate effectively across cultures and languages
- Ability to thrive in environments with uncertainty and ambiguity
- Ability to recognize and capitalize on an initiative’s potential for growth
