Senior Safety & Risk Officer Job in South Africa

Job Description:
To provide Safety & Risk services to the mine (Chief Safety Officer legal appointment), liaising with all relevant stakeholders on issues related to injuries, incidents, investigations, inspections and Health and Safety observations.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Perform the duties of a  Senior Risk &  Safety Officer as per Regulation 2.17.4 of the Minerals Act regulations under the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Investigation and documentation of incidents as per AGA AIIP process
  • Execution and Evaluation of Safety management system
  • Actively drive the Safety Management Strategy and facilitate risk assessments
  • Ensure application and good working knowledge of the following: legislation, managerial procedures, policies and Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Management System, hazard identification and risk assessment, inspect and report on compliance of mine standards and legislative requirements

 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with a diploma in Safety Management would be advantageous
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of a Safety Management System. (OHSAS 18001) as well as Mine Health and Safety Act, specifically duties of Safety Officer and Chief Safety Officer
  • Advance Principles of Safety Management (SS1 & SS2), Comsoc 1 and 2 or equivalent and Risk assessment Level 3 course
  • At least 2-3 years relevant experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Must have good administrative and communication skills
  • Must be in possession of a valid First Aid Certificate and Certificate of fitness
  • A Blasting Certificate and/or Trade Certificate would be advantageous
  • Good knowledge and application of RMS would be advantageous
