Description

Based in Harare with regular travel to Field Areas Local contract (Zimbabwean nationals only)

Background Information 
SNV has worked in Zimbabwe since 1984 and operates from Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare. SNV Zimbabwe currently focuses its work on poverty reduction through offering our clients opportunities to realize their development objectives by designing, managing and supporting cost-effective, innovative and sustainable programs that create large scale and on-going impact in three sectors (Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene). Governance is an important cross-cutting theme. Sustainability, gender equity and social inclusion are key elements of good governance. Currently, our staff in Zimbabwe consists of 25 primary and support staff, who are complemented by Local Capacity Builders in the provision of capacity development services.

Overview of the Position

The HR Officer is responsible for steering the HR unit on quality and cost-effective HR practice at SNV Zimbabwe. The position hierarchically and functionally reports to the Country Director and the incumbent is a member of the Country Management Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction to the country HR unit in terms of content and leadership on quality and cost-effectiveness for primary, support staff and local capacity builders;
  • Performance management, staff motivation and staff health and welfare;
  • Ensuring compliance of country HR polices and practices in line with corporate strategies under the five pillars of Recruitment & Selection, Human Resource Development, Organizational Development, Health and Safety and Compensation and Benefits;
  • Administer HR information and be responsible for the completeness and accuracy of personnel data for all Zimbabwe based staff;
  • Manage payroll (Belina) of all staff and the administration of all benefits for staff;
  • Perform HR analysis and reporting per organizational unit in the organization to project leaders, sector leaders, the country director and Global Support Unit, including providing regular reports;
  • Handle immigration issues for expatriate staff Manage the settling in and exit of expatriate staff;
  • Handle some logistical roles with relation to HR affairs.
  • Support Business Development initiatives on HR related matters;

 

Requirements

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s Degree in a Human Resources related discipline;
  • Professional qualification/certification in any relevant development related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in Human Resources at a senior management level in an international organization;
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a project management environment;
  • Membership of the Human Resources Network in Zimbabwe and other HR professional bodies would be an added advantage;
  • In-depth knowledge of HR tools/models under the five HR pillars mentioned above;
  • Knowledge on and proven experience in Performance Management;
  • Experience in implementing HIV/AIDS Work Place and gender policies;
  • Strong Computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Powerpoint, e-mail);
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and oral) and organising abilities;
  • A person of high integrity;
  • Experience in building solid working relationships and teams.

Salary: SNV Zimbabwe offers an attractive compensation package.

Contract period: 2 years with possible extension
