Summary: The Country Director (CD) is responsible for the overall leadership and management of a portfolio of projects. The CD is responsible for meeting the projects’ technical objectives, managing financial resources, managing program staff, managing partnering agreements, maintaining good working relationships with host government officials and local partners, managing donor reporting and ensuring a high-quality delivery of services.

The COP reports to the Regional Vice President

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA and at least 8 years of relevant experience (or equivalent) which 6 years should be direct field management, managing complex, high-speed and challenging field operations in developing countries.
  • Minimum of 5 years in country level senior management position supervising technical and finance staff.
  • Highly preferred prior experience in Zimbabwe or Southern Africa.
  • In depth knowledge of USAID and/or other donor regulations, systems and procedures
  • Proven technical ability with institutional and technical strengthening of selected local civil society organizations (CSOs) and capacity building of small or community based organizations (CBOs);Experience with rapid response grants to traditional and non-traditional civil society actors;
  • Ability to sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with internal colleagues and contacts in donor and peer organizations
  • Strong negotiating and conflict resolution skills

Preference for:

  • Experience managing large donor-funded programs with demonstrated capacity to create and/or maintain complex systems and procedures involving multiple implementation sites, multiple partners and diverse beneficiaries
  • Ability to provide the financial management and oversight necessary to successfullyexecute a large-scale program
  • Ability to foster strong cooperation and collaboration with partners, donors, government, and other key stakeholders
  • Fluent in English with proficiency in the local language (Shona, Northern Ndebele)
  • Zimbabwean national is highly preferred
