Chief of Party – Agricultural Competitiveness Zimbabwe

DAI seeks a Chief of Party for its ongoing USAID-funded project in Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Competitiveness Project (Zim ACP). Zim ACP contributes to achieving the goals and objectives of the USAID/Zimbabwe strategy by providing support to the farming and agribusiness sector, via the representative farmer bodies, by enabling business environment and subsequent economic growth and employment.

The project is structured into three interlocked components:

(1) supporting and strengthening representative farmers unions, commodity associations and agribusiness associations and assisting them to develop their analytical and advocacy capacity;

(2) increasing the efficiencies in agricultural markets, developing and applying improved technologies and enhancing the capacity of market institutions; and

(3) enhancing the capacity of business service providers to deliver quality, demand-driven trainings and technical assistance at a firm and farmer level.

Responsibilities

The COP will be responsible for overall management and technical leadership on the Zim ACP. S/he will oversee the development and implementation of work plans, operational budgets and performance management plans; coordination with the USAID mission, and other key donors, partner organizations and stakeholders; and ensure achievement of project results and deliverables. The COP will supervise key project staff and ensure compliance with USAID rules and regulations and DAI policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in agricultural production, agribusiness development, value chain facilitation, marketing and trade, or other related field;
  • Previous experience in facilitating complex value chain development;
  • At least 5 years of management experience implementing large-scale value chain development, competitiveness, trade and/or agribusiness development programs, preferably on USAID funded projects in the region;
  • Prior experience as a Chief of Party or Deputy Chief or Party on a USAID-funded program of similar size and scope is strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including local stakeholders, donors, community-based organizations, think tanks and universities, the private sector, project partners and staff; and ability to achieve project results;
  • Previous experience in Zimbabwe or Southern African countries is strongly preferred;
  • Advanced degree in economics, agriculture, finance, business administration or other relevant field; and
  • Fluency in English and strong writing and editing skills required.
