Chief Finance Officer/ Senior Secretary at the University of Zimbabwe

This vacancy is for a Chief Finance Officer of the University with the overall responsibility of safeguarding its funds and authorizing its investments and expenditure. The Bursar is part of the Senior Management Team of the University and plays a key role in the strategic planning and decision-making process in the institution. The Bursar reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor.
The University is offering a competitive remuneration package which includes a motor vehicle, pension, medical aid, a performance bonus and biennial contact leave. This post is a contract appointment for a period of up to four years and renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: Taking full responsibility for all the financial affairs of the University including strategic planning, implementing sound accounting procedures and treasury management.

  • Providing policy advice and accounting services to a wide range of clients within the University community and ensuring that the financial regulations and procedures are continually updated to meet the demands of an IT driven environment.
  • Undertaking the full range of company secretarial duties and administration of the University’s pension and insurance portfolios.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be a holder of a Bachelor of Accountancy Honours Degree and a relevant Masters degree together with a professional qualification such as Chartered Institute of Secretaries (CIS).
  2. Be a registered Public Accountant.
  3. Have at least eight years managerial experience, of which a minimum of four years will have been at a senior level in a large organisation.
  4. Be highly computer literate.
  5. Have a strong understanding of the challenges facing higher education institutions.
  6. Be able to contribute to the overall good management of the University and keep pace with other changes in the internal and external environment.
  7. Have a proven track record of taking full responsibility for a multi-faceted job in a dynamic environment.
  8. Be a highly credible and mature person who enjoys an outstanding reputation in the financial sector.
