Key Duties and Responsibilities British Mission Zimbabwe

The British Mission Zimbabwe is consolidating its corporate services onto a single, cross-HMG Platform, tasked with delivering excellent services and year on year savings despite a comparatively lean starting point. At the same time, we have been designated a global pilot post for Integrated Business Planning – demanding deep cultural changes and innovative process redesign to embed cross-team working across both frontline and corporate services teams.

We are looking for an experienced Change and Transformation Manager to direct a two-year change and transformation programme to raise operational performance of all corporate services and customer facing teams, improve cross-HMG working at all levels and raise staff engagement. Leading all corporate change initiatives, you will ensure business excellence through both incremental improvements and discontinuous transformation.

You will be highly self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision, able to work from an initial high level brief and give shape and structure to change initiatives. You must have depth and breadth of specialist skills and experience on change management, able to influence people at all levels and secure buy-in for your proposals from top management and your own staff, plus colleagues outside your formal chain of command – in order to influence the 130 staff across our wider Mission. Responsibilitiesinclude defining our future organisational structure; directing operational managers to map and then re-engineer business processes while leading them through the change; risk management and mitigation; and change metrics and reporting.

You will direct internal strategic communications, working to ensure staff buy-in and minimise negative reactions to change from UK based and local staff alike. We aspire to be a high- performing, motivated team and you will design and implement our strategy to raise staff engagement and morale. You will overhaul our systems of performance management, using all available levers to tackle some longstanding issues and champion our values of taking responsibility, innovation and collaboration.

As Director of our newly integrated, 35 person Corporate Services department, you will lead and coach the Head of Corporate Services to raise departmental performance. You will establish KPIs, negotiating performance standards with senior customers and reporting back against them. You will give the Ambassador full assurance on all financial management issues, overseeing a multi-million dollar budget. Finally, you will help direct our recently halved consular team to ensure that the service we offer the public on consular and passport issues meets our rising global service standards. As with all our roles, there will be plenty of room for development and depending on your skills and interests, they will be chances to contribute to other areas of our work, for example HMGs public communications in Zimbabwe.

This is a demanding role in our leadership team, working closely with the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission. It is funded for two years only, demanding delivery aleadership. You are likely to be an experienced Change and Transformation Manager with at least ten years track record of t pace and certainty of outcome. Sustainability depends on achieving wider staff ownership and will require visible, dynamic and empathetic delivering change at pace. You will have managed the design, development and execution of multiple strategic initiatives with direct responsibility for multi-million dollar budgets.
