Duties

TechnoServe is seeking experienced candidates for an upcoming agricultural development program based in Zimbabwe. This is part of TechnoServe Zimbabwe’s broader efforts to promote and support inclusive economic growth in the country. TechnoServe seeks a fulltime Program Director to provide overall strategic direction to the program, manage the budget and implementation, and be responsible for delivery of all results to the client.

In this role you will:

Lead overall strategic, technical, programmatic, financial, and management guidance and support for all activities.
Manage and coordinate a core staff of technical, financial and administrative program professionals to deliver results and ensure responsive and efficient project operations.
Ensure effective promotion, marketing and outreach to private sector and public institutions.
Lead overall program strategy to increase smallholder market access, promote agricultural investment, strengthen the regulatory environment, and increase access to value addition opportunities (e.g. agro-processing).
Direct and collaborate with program partners on issues of overall program strategy.
Ensure that project objectives, outcomes, and deliverables are met and that financial, operational, and reporting requirements of the donor are adhered to.
Serve as the primary liaison with the client, other donors, partners, and stakeholders.
Lead program networking and institutional outreach, coordinate effectively with key stakeholders and partners, and manage project troubleshooting.
Work with development partners, donors and government institutions to enhance communication channels, share knowledge and improve coordination.
Ensure cost-effective delivery of results.
Guide team to develop effective monitoring and evaluation plans and disseminate results and learning.
Supervise, mentor and develop staff, consultants and managers to ensure program delivery, staff performance and retention.
Ensure project finances and management practices are in compliance with TechnoServe and donor contractual rules and regulations.
Ensure all reporting, both technical and financial, to the program donors, is done timely and correctly.
Qualifications

You will have:

A master’s degree in agriculture, economics, project management, business and/or a related discipline.
At least 15 years of experience in development, with demonstrated experience managing large and complex agricultural programs, ideally in southern Africa.
Demonstrated experience implementing large donor-funded program (over $40 million in value) for funders like DFID, USAID, EU and the World Bank Group.
Strong knowledge and experience in agricultural value chain development (ideally related to livestock, dairy, stock-feed and/or staples); with proven track record improving business outcomes for SMEs/farmers.
Demonstrated experience working in or with the private sector.
Ability to structure and manage complex tasks; including experience in work planning and activity budgeting.
Ability to build productive, collaborative working relationships across different organizational functions and effectively manage and coach staff.
Ability to engage key agricultural value chain stakeholders at all levels in the private and public sectors.
Proven track record in successfully navigating the donor and political environment.
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
Knowledge of Microsoft office suite, specifically Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.
Excellent networking and relationship-building skills.
Superior writing skills; and ability to develop well written, cohesive reports that are responsive to the donors’ needs.
Willingness to travel domestically.
Preferred:

Experience living and working in sub-Saharan Africa a distinct advantage, ideally with experience working in Zimbabwe.
Energetic social entrepreneur that works well with vastly different personalities and can adapt and respond well to high pressure, challenging, and dynamic environments.
Zimbabwean nationals are encouraged to apply.
