Background |

Under the direct supervision of the UN Physician, the Emergency Nurse will ensure provision of efficient medical emergency care and nursing services to UN staff and their eligible dependents. |
|
Duties and Responsibilities |
|
Assists in the management of critical emergency cases, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
- In consultation with the UN Physician, manages critical emergency cases;
- Provide treatment for all patients attending the clinic as prescribed by UN Doctor including dressings, injections, dispensation and immunities;
- Assist the UN Physician with referral services and evacuations;
Ensure efficient communication and record keeping, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
- Maintain records of all visits and treatments;
- Maintain blood donor register;
- Provide information on medical practitioners and medical facilities available in the country;
- Provide information on health requirements for travel abroad and give advice to local and international staff;
- Ability to train staff in emergency medicine and any other health issues;
Provision of administrative functions, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
- Prepare mission medical kit and arrange for drugs to up country stations whenever necessary;
- General Day to day running of the clinic administrative and supervisory work;
- Translation to Doctor / patient into English / local language;
- Assist the UN Clinic with Cost Recovery Programme (CRP);
- Any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills and Experience |
|
Education:
- State Registered Nurse Diploma with further qualification in either Anesthesia/ICU/Midwifery/Theater training;
- Critical Care and Trauma Certificate;
- Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life support;
- Computer Literacy;
Experience:
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience in Critical Emergency Care and administration;
- Experience in capacity development on health matters at international level is desirable;
- Prowess to produce internationally acceptable reports;
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of another UN language is an added advantage.;
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in written and spoken English and basic working knowledge in both Shona and Ndebele.
