terre des hommes schweiz is a registered and established donor organization based in Switzerland. The organisation has a specific focus of marginalized youth and is committed to work in the area of psychosocial support, prevention of gender based violence and economic and social empowerment of youth.
terre des hommes schweiz was founded in 1960 as a politically and religiously neutral association in Switzerland and is a member of the of Terre des Hommes International Federation (TDHIF), an association of 10 Terre des Hommes organisations in Europe and Canada. terre des hommes schweiz works and operates country offices in different Latin American and African countries.
South Africa has been a focus country of terre des hommes schweiz since many years, whereas the organisation has only started to establish a programme in Zimbabwe in 2011. Currently, terre des hommes schweiz cooperates with 4 partner organisations in South Africa (Kwa Zulu Natal) and 3 partner organisations in Southern Zimbabwe.
As per 1st of February 2014, terre des hommes schweiz is seeking for a National coordinator / Consultant 80 -100% to establish a country office in Zimbabwe in Bulawayo or Harare and to coordinate the country programmes in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Job description
The national Coordinator / Consultant will have the following responsibilities.
Project level
– To identify new projects and partner organisations
– To assess and evaluate ongoing and new projects within the strategic framework of terre des hommes schweiz
– To accompany, monitor and advise the partner organisations of terre des hommes schweiz in South Africa and Zimbabwe
– To share information with and report to the Head Office of terre des hommes schweiz in Switzerland, checking, advising and approving partners’ proposals, activities reports and give inputs before their final approval
Programme level
– To establish a joint National Coordination office (NC-office) for the country programmes Zimbabwe and South Africa in Zimbabwe (Bulawayo or Harare). This also involves the process of registering terre des hommes schweiz as an organisation in Zimbabwe
– To assess the country programme development of terre des hommes schweiz in South Africa and Zimbabwe (focusing on psychosocial support, prevention of gender based violence and economic and social empowerment of youth)
– To establish and strengthen networks and create opportunities for experience sharing among partner organisations
– To participate in relevant national and international networks in the name of terre des hommes schweiz
– To represent terre des hommes schweiz in Zimbabwe and South Africa
Qualifications and experiences
– Holder of an university degree in Development Studies, Social Science, International relations, Business administration or an equivalent education from a recognized institution
– She/he must have worked several years for an NGO or another international cooperation institution and must have a proven work experience at project or programme management level for at least five years
– She/he should have practical work experience in the field of psychosocial support (PSS), participation of youth, economic empowerment and/or prevention of violence
– She/he should have a good knowledge of PCM, project monitoring and evaluation instruments
– She/he should have experience in financial and operative management of a coordination office
– She/he should have a good knowledge of the legal and socio-political context of Zimbabwe and South Africa and their national NGO scenes
– She/he must have excellent spoken and written English skills and preferably be fluent in Ndebele, Shona or Zulu
– She/he must have good computer skills (word, excel, Powerpoint)
– She/he must have analytical capacities and be self-reflective
– She/he is ceative, innovative, patient and gender-sensitive
