Job summary
The Project Field Assistant (PFA) will be responsible for developing an activity plan for agricultural/agronomic activities in line with the Annual Operating Plan; training of farmers in improved agricultural practices, linking agro-dealers and producer groups to financial services and input suppliers for improved access to agricultural inputs. S/he will be responsible for providing technical support to project agricultural activities and asset creation and monitoring of agricultural production at trial plots and irrigation schemes. The incumbent will be stationed in the district reporting to the Field Supervisor.
Key duties and responsibilities
Agronomy support which includes: Identifying and registering farmers to participate in the project; Providing technical support on farming and agronomy practices to farmers in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture; Setting up demonstration plots using the lead farmer approach and gender mainstreaming as guided by the project guidelines in wards of operation; Facilitating the formation of producer groups at ward level, training the producer groups and agro-dealers on post harvest handling and storage; Training farmers on general livestock management (selection, breeding, castration, feeding, shelter and diseases management) including gender mainstreaming; Using the developed monitoring and evaluation tools to monitor agricultural activities at field level; Compiling and submitting monthly & quarterly reports to the Field Supervisor; Identifying Food for Assets (FFA) project sites in liaison with the relevant stakeholders and the community; Selecting FFA project participants through inclusive and gender equitable processes in collaboration with stakeholders in line with prescribed FFA selection criteria; Establishing and training Project Implementation Teams, Asset Management Committees, Disaster Risk Reduction Committees and Garden Committees; Ensuring all relevant project documents are produced and completed (FFA Project Proposal, Resolution Form, DRR Plans, Certificate of no Objection, FFA MoU, Phase completion); Training farmers on asset utilization, asset management and gender equity; Monitoring work activities at the project sites ensuring adherence to work norms; Managing relationships with stakeholders including Government line Ministries, NGOs and private sector at Ward level
Qualifications, skills and experience
– Diploma in Agriculture or equivalent
– Good interpersonal and communication skills
– Good public relations, team player and able to work under strenuous conditions
– Ability and willingness to ride a motorcycle is a must
– A minimum of 2 years experience in community development and/or humanitarian aid work
