Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 7 years operational mining experience of which at least three years must be drill and blast related, supplemented by least 3 years’ experience in a managerial role.
- Previous experience of working for a world class Explosives supply company preferably in a Marketing/Business Development role.
Job Specification
- The main purpose is to manage all requirements of the explosives delivery and blasting service to current and potential customers in a way that meets (or exceeds) their needs, and enhances the relationships with them to ensure that BME will be their first choice service provider.
- The successful incumbent will also be responsible for the HEF plant with all associated responsibilities of safety and quality control.
- The incumbent will be based in Solwezi, working at the BME offices in Kansanshi Mine.
- The primary customer will be Kansanshi Mine but will also include neighbouring mines like Lumwana and Kalumbila.
Key Performance Areas
Manage the operational service delivery value chain
- Practice and inculcate a customer service excellence culture to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
- Oversee the planning and organising of resources to meet customers’ needs.
- Manage the scheduling and coordination of loading of vehicles in order to facilitate the smooth, on-time flow of deliveries to sites .
- Ensure continuous availability of all consumable materials and equipment to facilitate the smooth flow of work and to avoid production delays.
- Prepare and present technical reports.
Inventory/Stock Control
- Ensure the sound management of storage areas such as Silos under area of control.
- Effectively manage costs to ensure maximum savings and profitability with regard to storage of raw material products .
- Oversee that stock levels of raw material products in storage areas are monitored and replenished on a timely basis.
- Oversee that stock levels of blasting accessories (magazine stocks) are monitored and replenished on a timely basis .
- Investigate stock shortages and identify and implement corrective measures.
- Ensure the security of stock in storage areas to eliminate theft.
- Oversee that correct and appropriate procedures are followed with regard to loading/unloading of trucks as well as the movement of products into and out of storage areas.
Financial Management
- Provide inputs into the annual budgeting process in line with the departmental objectives .
- Monitor and control cost of labour, overtime, materials and supplies.
SHEQ Management
- Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality legal requirements.
- Ensure that first-line supervision conduct regular inspections of sites, vehicles and equipment.
- Identify and implement proactive measures to minimize identified risk.
- Ensure that the necessary documentation and administration of health and safety matters are up to date.
- Ensure prescribed audits are conducted and that recommendations are acted upon.
- Ensure incident investigations are conducted.
- Ensure that required staff training takes place.
- Cultivate a quality conscientiousness culture.
- Manage applicable systems, processes and procedures to ensure timely maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
People Management
- Establish staffing needs and ensure adequate number of employees are employed to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Ensure new staff members receive appropriate induction/training.
- Develop relationships, promote teamwork, mentor, coach, provide vision and inspire the team to its highest level of performance.
- Foster a training and development culture.
- Manage team performance .
- Responsible for ensuring that a sound interpersonal climate prevails by applying appropriate procedures and mechanisms to resolve conflicts, dissatisfaction, and IR issues such as grievances and disciplinary cases.
