Intersectional Communications Officer
An International NGO working in the field of HIV/AIDS and Mental Health is inviting applications from qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position of Intersectional Communications Officer.
Location: Harare (with frequent travelling in Zimbabwe)
Type of contract: Fixed term contract with trial period of three month
Start date: To commence work on 15th April, 2015
Immediate Supervisor: The Head of Mission(s)
Objectives of the post
- To help prepare and implement MSF communications strategy and action plan to boost the image and visibility of MSF and its programs in Zimbabwe in the Zimbabwean public and towards MSF partners.
- To liaise with national media.
- To develop communication material about MSF’s programs in Zimbabwe for use in country as well as for the wider MSF network (to represent MSF’s work in Zimbabwe towards an International and National audience).
- To provide functional support to the sections’ Patient Support/ IEC departments.
Requirements
Educational and professional background
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, Humanitarian Affairs, Political Sciences or related University degree.
- Demonstrate working experience in producing communications content production (articles, press releases, health education materials).
- Experience with MSF or other NGO in similar positions.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Access (or similar databases), Additional knowledge of design packages such as Corel, Adobe Photoshop, MS Publisher would be advantageous.
Requirements
- Previous working experience of at least two years in communications, journalism or public relations.
- Experience in performing health assessments, developing project proposals, project planning & monitoring.
- Good communication skills and liaising capacity with different stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in dealing with national authorities, national and international NGO’s.
- Excellent written and spoken English, Shona and Ndebele languages.
- High level of flexibility to travel frequently in Zimbabwe to often isolated project locations.
- To be able to demonstrate discretion, sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
