Gender & Women’s Empowerment Adviser

Reporting to: Team Leader

Location: Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho

Duration:

It is anticipated that this assignment will take a maximum of 60(sixty) working days, in two batches of 30 days.

Background:

GRM is implementing a regional smallholder agricultural development project covering selected areas of Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho known as the Seed and Markets Project (SAMP). GRM has completed a first phase of the project (SAMP 1) and is now looking to consolidate and expand for SAMP 2. In line with SDC policies on gender equality and women empowerment, SAMP 2 will mainstream gender focus throughout the project. To assist the SAMP team with this, a Gender Advisor is required in order to carry out the following;

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Undertake a gender analysis of the current project in order identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to improve women empowerment
  • Outline a clear gender policy for SAMP as well as the production of guidelines
  • Assist staff to integrate gender analysis and issues of women empowerment into programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Strengthen the capacity of project stakeholders to systematically apply gender policy and guidelines throughout SAMP
  • Assist SAMP to reach project targets related to women empowerment

Profile of Consultant:

The consult should have the following profile:

  • Post graduate qualification in sociology/anthropology or a related field
  • Extensive and practical knowledge of issues related to gender and women’s empowerment in the context of agriculture in the target countries (Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho).
  • Experience in ‘gender and women’s empowerment’ analysis, project design and implementation
  • Proven track record in training project managers in gender and women’s empowerment awareness
  • Highly developed written and oral presentational skills
  • Ability to travel to rural areas
