JOB CONTEXT :
Handicap International (HI) has been operating in South Sudan since 2006, implementing emergency and development actions aimed at improving the protection, quality of life, and the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and other vulnerable individuals and communities.
Soon after the crisis in December 2013, HI started to receive multiple requests from humanitarian partners who were identifying gaps in the attention and responses for wound-affected people and persons in disabling situations. It soon became evident that the increasing complexity of requests required a more comprehensive mission to provide effective interventions in areas where no disability-related service had ever been available.
Therefore, HI decided to set up a a flying team composed of psychologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists which was able to stay for some time within specific locations in order to provide targeted & tailored field support for wound-affected people and persons in disabling situations as well as extended mentoring for humanitarian field staff.
YOUR MISSION:
As an Emergency Occupational Therapist, you will work under the direct line management of the Emergency Coordinator and in close collaboration with the other professionals of the flying team in order to strengthen the flying team response.

Your main missions will be:

 Identifying, assessing needs and providing services to people with functional limitations in targeted areas
 Ensuring adequate training & capacity building for local staff in targeted areas
 Assessing accessibility in the country mainstream services & facilities with the objective of providing practical and contextual advice for improvement to humanitarian actors

CANDIDATE’S PROFILE :
• You hold a bachelor/master degree in occupational therapy from a recognized university/school.
• You have a minimum experience of 03 years in occupational therapy services, including psychomotor stimulation, accessibility assessments and reforms, counselling and PSS activities
• You understand how to work effectively within a physical rehabilitation humanitarian project from your past experiences
• You are able to develop and maintain effective work relationships with partner organizations and humanitarian staff across sectors and to adapt his/her inputs to their field realities.
• You show flexibility, patience and perseverance

SPECIFICS OF THE POSITION :

• Juba (capital): basic but acceptable living conditions (generator, water tanks, basic roads, basic internet…) and high living cost; very basic living conditions within sites of intervention in rural areas which are accessible by plane through WFP-run services
• Collective housing (taken in charge by Handicap International)
• R&R every 10 weeks
• Country under security focus, security conditions are unstable and large areas of the country are conflict affected; restrictions of movement & curfew in place

CONDITIONS:
• Starting date : 01/06/16
• Length of the contract: 7 months until the 31.12.2016

• Employee or volunteer status, according to experience :

Employee: 1881-2247 € regarding the position and the experience of the candidate + expatriation allowance of €457 (+ cost-of-living regarding the allocation basis on field) + medical health coverage, retirement planning, repatriation insurance
Volunteer: volunteering allowances 750€/850€ + perdiem allowances paid on field, based on local cost-of-living. Insurances: health coverage, planning, repatriation, retirement (if senior volunteer).
