Medical Doctor : Zimbabwe 2016

Duties and Responsibilities

• Comprehensive and compassionate management of all patients which includes, but is not limited to: o Assessing the eligibility and readiness of patients for ART o Assisting nurses in the process of making diagnosis and selecting appropriate and effective treatments o Assessing the appropriateness of nurses’ diagnosis and treatment of opportunistic infections and other medical conditions
• Prescribing medications to patients  o Assessing the adherence of patients to the prescribed management o Interpreting abnormal laboratory test results and assuring that appropriate actions are taken o Referring patients to external facilities for specialized medical services as needed from time to time o Attending to difficult cases and urgent cases o Referring patients to hospitals and other medical institutions
• Reviewing data entered by nurses for quality assurance and thoroughness; providing feedback for the nurses to action.
• Assessing nurse performance and providing guidance and teaching where necessary
• Providing guidance to laboratory and pharmacy on appropriate tests and drugs for patients
• Contributing to SOP updates and revisions
• Participating in case presentation for continuous professional development
• Participating in operational research and clinical research to provide learning from the cohort for decision-making on patient management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Medical Degree from a recognised University
• At least 3 years’ experience in OI/ART services
• Open practising licence from the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ)
