Purpose of the Position: The Endangered Wildlife Trust is one of the largest biodiversity conservation NGOs in southern Africa and is seeking to employ a Communications and Brand Manager who will be responsible for managing both the internal and external communications on behalf of the EWT, including media liaison, the EWT brand and all EWT publications. This position will also be expected to provide communications support to EWT staff with regards to producing popular articles and media features. Furthermore, the position must ensure that the EWT receives correct and appropriate brand placement and awareness amongst targeted audiences, through advertising and media partners. The post also oversees all of the EWT’s online platforms and is responsible for overseeing the EWT’s membership outreach and relationships. The right candidate will be a highly competent, skilled communicator, an innovative and creative thinker, is solutions orientated and a passionate self-starter.
Reporting line: Chief Executive Officer
Qualifications and Experience required:
A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism or English.
At least five year’s work experience in a similar position.
Proven track record and experience in working with members of the media.
Experience in writing for mainstream media and popular publications.
Experience in writing for the online environment, including newsletters, websites and social media.
Editing experience.
Experience working in the NGO sector will be an advantage.
Experience and a proven track record managing brand awareness and / or advertising campaigns, communications campaigns, and on-line awareness campaigns.
Competencies required:
Excellent English (written and spoken) and editing skills.
Flawless spelling and grammar
Good understanding of the media and advertising environments.
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programmes.
Excellent understanding of both the traditional and digital communications environment including social media.
Strong project management skills.
A wide ranging network in the media and advertising sectors;
Experience in and ability to speak to the media as well as confident when speaking publicly.
High degree of self-motivation and pro-activity.
Good administrative skills and good organisation skills.
Ability to work as a team member and independently.
Knowledge of a second South African language would be beneficial.
Knowledge of conservation and environmental issues would be an advantage.
Valid SA driver’s license, and suitable off road and long distance driving experience.
Must be in possession of own vehicle (preferable)
