Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative for Zimbabwe (FAOR), the direct supervision of the Project Manager of the “Smallholder Irrigation Support Programme” and in close collaboration with the relevant FAO technical and support staff, donors, implementing partners, Government and the Market Development componcntofthe Programme, the Agri-business Expert will
support efforts to broker publ ic-private-community partnership and to get small holder farmers to produce forthc market. In particular the incumbent will:
- Serve as a project’ focal point to coordinate and facilitate collaboration on market linkage aspects with the Programme stakeholders, in particular the private sector actors, in order to build public-private-community partnerships in support of project activities
- Contribute to the development of extension and advisory services related to farming as a business, private extension provision and public-private partnerships and financial literacy
Serve as key trainer on agricultural business planning and development, contributing to the development offarm business plans and models
- Work with project beneficiaries (men, women, farmer b’TOUPS & youth), seek opportunities and support efforts to develop and expand market opportunities and farm-to-market linkages
- Identify and support opportunities to reduce post-harvest food losses and waste, and value addition of food products at the farm/household level
- Support facilitation and coordination of market linkage activities at the district level, and relevant technical networks as well as related processes at the national level
- Contribute to the project work planning, monitoring and evaluation, assessing results, communication and visibility Support the development and implementation of production and marketing schedules
- Ensure adequate and timely logistical support
- Perform other related duties and activities.
Minimum qualifications (Candidates will meet the followinf criteria
- Advanced University Degree ill Agri-business, Agricultural Economics, or related field
- A t least 7 years of relevant field experience, including the commercialisation of smallholder producers, building linkages with input, output and/or financial markets
- Fluent in English.
Requirements
Selection Criteria (candidates will be assessed o/Joinst the following criteria)
- Relevance and scope of experience
- Previous experience working with national and local governments, UN agencies, donors and NGOs
- Private sector experience will be an added advantage
- Demonstrated experience in building market linkages and commercial opportunities for smallholders.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills, including ability to write concise technical reports.
