OVERVIEW OF THE POST
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General Education, the authourity of the Director of UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa, and the direct supervision of the Senior Education Program Specialist, the National Professional Officer for Education will :
1. Contribute to the technical implementation of UNESCO Regular and Extra-budgetary Programs in the countries covered by the Regional Office from conceptualization, development and implementation to monitoring and evaluation in particular support to support the achievement of Education for All, technical advice to identified priorities related to improvement of quality educa-tion, within the context of UNESCO Programme and Budget (C/5), the Mid-Term Strategy (C/4), the Regional Strategic plan, as well as the United Nations Country Team works in the Region and SADC;
2. Participate in the reinforcement of UNESCO’s contribution to the Delivering as One (DaO) in Zimbabwe through the Zimbabwe United Nation’s Assistance Framework (ZUNDAF), and to the reinforcement of UNESCO’s cooperation with the host country by representing the office at meetings at the national level;
3. Prepare analytical reports on project performances as required; coordinate the timely preparation and submission of implementation reports; manage project budgets; draft project revisions as necessary, including adjusting individual projects budgets on the basis of change work plans;
4. Monitor progress of programs or projects; ensure timely provision inputs; and identify and propose measures to overcome operational constraints and actions to expedite delivery of inputs;
5. Participate in the production of technical and policy studies and provide input to various framework documents as required;
6. Perform other tasks as deemed appropriate by the Director.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
At least a Master’s Degree in a relevant field, preferably in education.
Work Experience
A least five years of professional experience in teaching, project management and technical support in the field of education at
national level and/or in the African region.
Skills/Competencies
Willingness to work independently
Knowledge and/or experience of the United Nations System is desirable
Ability to think and plan strategically and to work effectively with teams
Excellent communication and report writing skills
Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment
Good IT skills, particularly with respect to the internet, Word Processing, Excel, Power Point, etc
French will be an advantage
