The Organisation
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.
Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.
We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.
We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 75 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.
The Opportunity
Plan International’s Child Protection (Safeguarding) Policy Unit at Plan International’s Headquarters provides the strategic direction for keeping children safe in Plan International in line with the overall organisational strategy. This includes the implementation of the policy and all activities throughout Plan International associated with keeping children safe, including the management of reported policy breaches and incidents where there is a concern about welfare.
Working closely with over 200 global Child Protection Policy Focal Points, the Child Protection Policy Technical Advisor provides technical advice, support and training in the design and development of programs for children in countries in conflict, crisis, post-conflict and post-crisis settings, with a specific focus on research, monitoring and evaluation for child protection. You will support business and partnership development, developing strategies and resources, reviewing and generating evidence and helping to raise Plan’s profile.
In addition, you will be responsible for responding to and providing high quality technical advice to Child Protection Policy cases. You will develop and review reporting, responding and investigation procedures and practices, ensuring that these are in line with best practice and maintain the register of issues, analysing trends and providing recommendations.
The Person
- You will have demonstrable experience in field-based child protection program management, preferably within a humanitarian, international development setting and excellent knowledge of Child Protection Policy standards. With strong technical knowledge and skills in keeping children safe, responding to and investigating issues and breaches you will also be adept at providing advice and developing and delivering training.
- Strong communication skills, the ability to inspire and influence and excellent training and facilitation skills are imperative. You will be self-motivated with excellent prioritisation skills and a flexible, resilient approach.
Please note that only applications and CVs written in English will be accepted.
A range of pre-employment checks will be undertaken in conformity with Plans Child Protection Policy.
As an international child centred community development organisation, Plan is fully committed to promoting the realization of children’s rights including their right to protection from violence and abuse. That means we have particular responsibilities to children that we come into contact with.
