Restless Development (Zimbabwe) is a global agency for youth-led development. We have been supporting young people demand and deliver a just and sustainable world for all, since 1985. Restless Development’s approach is based on the principle that young people can develop and lead effective long-term interventions in the areas of Civic Participation/Engagement, Livelihoods, and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH).
Restless Development is implementing the Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) in Zimbabwe − an integrated Leadership, Livelihoods, and SRHR education programme – in rural communities. This is an opportunity for young people who want to make a difference in their communities as volunteers for a period of 3 months. The placements will be in Chimanimani and Harare.
ICS is a once-in-a-lifetime volunteering opportunity open to 18 to 25 year olds. We are looking for passionate, enthusiastic and committed young people that want to make an impact. Our ideal volunteer is good at working with others, flexible and adaptable, positive and committed to the programme.
If you are aged 23 or above; are able to help facilitate a team of young people from Zimbabwe and the UK to work together on development projects and are looking to develop your leadership, organisation, or language skills, or gain experience in youth work or community development…then the role of ICS Team Leader may be just what you’re looking for!
ICS is a once-in-a-lifetime volunteering opportunity open to 18 to 25 year olds. As an ICS TEAM Leader, you will be working with a small Team of UK and Zimbabwe volunteers aged 18-25 on their 10 week placement from the 1 June-20 Dec 2017. This will mean supporting your Team members to actively participate in the project, have a positive development impact in the community, keep motivated and stay safe.
The Team Leader role is challenging but also immensely rewarding. You will be paired with another Team Leader from the UK, and together you
will:
- Provide support, supervision and leadership to your Team
- Facilitate an equal partnership between UK and in-country volunteers
- Conduct regular one-to-ones with your Team members
- Facilitate Team meetings
- Support volunteers with their learning and reflection
- Liaise directly with Restless Development in-country staff
- Address discipline within the Team
- Complete relevant paperwork.
What we are looking for
Whilst many of the things we look for in Team Leaders are similar to what we look for in all our ICS volunteers, such as a positive and realistic commitment, flexibility and adaptability and the ability to work with others, we also look for organisation, facilitation and leadership skills. We prefer individuals who already have some relevant experience, usually either in leading groups of young people. Candidates should have completed a first degree.
